Thank you for visiting this page.
Many of you will be aware of my involvement with the Rotary Club of Elsternwick. Over the past 12 years our club has undertaken many projects both within Australia and overseas. Some of the countries that we have assisted include East Timor, Bangladesh and Uruguay. Locally we have assisted the Alfred Hospital, the Bethelem Hospital and the Ardoch Foundation.
Recently, our club had a visit from a young woman from Woodend, who on visiting Cambodia was struck by the desperate situation the people of Cambodia were facing. What started out as a small fundraising drive to raise money for the at risk children of Cambodia soon grew into an even larger project until finally with the support of many local people it became what it is today, The Cambodian Kids Foundation.
The Rotary Club of Elsternwick is looking to assist the Cambodian Kids Foundation in its quest to build a school and education centre for the 3479 families that live in 20 villages in the Trapaing Russy commune.
The Cambodian Kids Foundation has been given land within the Trapaing Russy commune and plans to build the Saing Sy centre. A school by day and an educational and community centre for adults during the night.
The school will teach Khmer, English, Computer classes, Job seeking skills, Leadership courses and Mental health courses. At night the centre will hold forums for women, courses on mental health, leadership, infection control and much more. The centre will also provide the commune with health services and employment opportunities.
The Cambodian Kids Foundation needs $30,000 to completely build the school and run it for a full year.
The task the Rotary Club of Elsternwick has set itself is to find 30 businesses who will each put in $1000 to fund the project. If you think you can help, and we are happy to take smaller contributions, please contact Bill Matthews on 03 9557 4300.
Thanks for your interest and please help us to make this project possible.
